Walk Around In Circles by Fannie Watkinson

A train goes by.  In those seconds all she does is stand there facing the noise and wind as it flashes CLICKETY CLACK CLICKETY CLACK in front.  Her hair’s launched back and her eyes close to slits.  CLICKETY CLACK CLICKETY CLACK CLICKETY CLACK and then

Her weight shifts forwards in unconscious overcompensation left from the train’s presence.  Her hair too shifts back into place.  For a moment all is still, the only sound from the rapidly receding train.  One bird trills away; a light breeze rustles the top of the canopy.  She takes a step forward and moseys onward.
