It had been months since he last felt the warmth of an oven, since he’d last gripped the cool metal of a wire whisk, since he’d cooked for anyone, let alone himself. When did he stop? Probably when he made the rookie mistake of serving slightly undercooked chicken at a dinner party. He was in a rush, and he was cocky, with all the praise from friends and family. But after that, he became disillusioned with food. No matter how much he yearned to compose those masterpieces he once did, he pulled out a microwave dinner of dry chicken and potatoes.
