Fifteen Ugly Skyscrapers Make a Skyline

On the roof, the city at twilight.

She rested her head on his shoulder, but her words were hesitant. “Mark, it’s not that I don’t love you. It’s just…It’s like this view right now.”

“The city?” he asked, trying to understand her.

“Our love – us – it’s beautiful and deep and romantic,” she said. “But all the little daily things…Few of those buildings are beautiful by themselves. Something normal happens between us, and I ask myself, is this how love goes? Shouldn’t the little pieces feel like miniature versions of the big romance?”

He looked across the city. “And they don’t…”
