“Have another Starburst, Harry.”

Harry took the small red square from Tom’s outstretched hand and grimaced, unwrapping the paper as slowly as he could.

“You love Starburst, Harry.” Tom looked at him with an icy blankness.

The bell rang.

“Harry, finish your Starburst. You don’t want to miss Math.” Tom was two grades older, and didn’t care.

Harry cried out. Tom’s minions snickered outside. Harry tried to think of how happy he’d been when Tom’s sister had given him a pink Starburst that morning in class, how they’d both blushed.

Tom took out a 1-pound Starburst value pack and smiled hideously.
