Peach Day

In by Lara on August 7, 2010 at 5:06 pm

Every day this year, they would pick peaches in her father’s orchard. Her knife blade was dull, but the peaches were ripe. As she cut them into slivers–the only way she could get her son to eat them–their sweet, fresh smell filled the kitchen. Her son came ambling into the room zooming his toy airplane. Zoommmm.  She gave him a  couple of slivers, but not until after he washed his hands. He pressed them into his mouth all at once, juice dribbling down the front of his shirt, just as she had done many, many times as a small child.
