Stress, when necessary

Maribeth stared through the high grass worriedly. There was something there, she could smell it. The high African sun blazed down on her furry back. There was something there…

She looked back down at the ground and kept munching the undergrowth. Oh, sweet succulent plants. Gnosh them in between her teeth, so stringy and fresh and delicious. Swallow a big old ball of them right down to her nice plump stomach. She tried to focus on the task of eating but at the back of her mind, she was freaking out. Adrenaline had been released with that first carnivorous whiff.
