On A Plane Flight Over The Amazon

In by Chris on July 8, 2010 at 12:42 am

After five hours of silence when each of us must have been thinking about what the other was thinking, I posed a question to the man next to me on the plane. “Do you think longing comes from boredom?”

He hmm-ed long and low. “Did you know that there are tribes in the rainforest below us that have never seen a white man? They think that the airplanes that fly overhead are the bird-carriers of their gods.”

“I wonder what they would do if I entered their village singing the blues.”

“Do they long to fly? What would they do?”
