Scratched Rocket

In by Chris on July 4, 2010 at 2:02 am

Several days later, we tried again. And again, the engine failed to work. Our rocket, it seemed, was doomed to remain a curiosity in the town’s central plaza.

A stooped and smiling man, walking by, said to us, “She’s too shiny. She’s afraid to fly; she might get scratched up there.”

A week ago, we might have laughed at him, explaining the scratch-proof genius behind the rocket’s sheet metal. But our dejection led us to believe him.

We punched the rocket, scratched and kneaded it. Soon it looked straight out of a junk lot. But still it would not fly.
